Bouldering The climber does not tie to a safety rope. The climbing is done very low to the ground with pads underneath them. This type of climbing is the most challenging. It's a great way to work on strength and climbing techniques. |

Top Roping The climber is tied to a rope, which passes through an anchor at the top of the wall and back down to the (spotter) belayer. As the climber moves up the wall the belayer pulls the rope through a belay device that hold the climber if they were to fall. It is the belayer who is responsible for lowering the climber to the ground safety. |

Lead Climbing A climber starts with their rope disconnected from all anchors. As they climb up the wall the belayer provides slack in the rope so that they may clip into the anchors set along the wall. |
