Indoor Rock Climbing in Central Ohio

Back in January 2010, I meet up with a few friends to try indoor rock climbing. Once we completed the training, we were on our way to experience the challenge. I found the experience to be fun and physically challenging. I have created this newsleter to provide information about Indoor Rock Climbing around Central Ohio.

Different types of Indoor Climbing

Most climbing gyms provide:
Bouldering Top Roping Lead Climbing

Bouldering Bouldering The climber does not tie to a safety rope. The climbing is done very low to the ground with pads underneath them. This type of climbing is the most challenging. It's a great way to work on strength and climbing techniques.

Top Roping Top Roping The climber is tied to a rope, which passes through an anchor at the top of the wall and back down to the (spotter) belayer. As the climber moves up the wall the belayer pulls the rope through a belay device that hold the climber if they were to fall. It is the belayer who is responsible for lowering the climber to the ground safety.

Lead Climbing Lead Climbing A climber starts with their rope disconnected from all anchors. As they climb up the wall the belayer provides slack in the rope so that they may clip into the anchors set along the wall.

Climbing indoors has such an appeal because someone can train year around no matter what the weather. Also, the climbing gym offers a very controlled environment for the climber to train. Click Here to find Indoor Climbing locations in Central Ohio.
